Be my Edward Cullen!

Filed under : Joire De Vivre

When the world, first, knew the Harry Potter “phenomenon”, no one would have expected then that the world might ever witness a similar global mania. That was before Stephanie Meyer published her vampire romance masterpiece, The Twilight Saga. The keyword behind the world-dominating Twilight mania which girls in every part on earth have is “fairy-tale love”. Most girls, regardless of their ages, share the same dream- finding prince charming that would come to them on his noble steed as soon as he sets eye on them. This is what The Twilight Saga is, mainly, about, though in modern terms.

Bella Swan is pictured as an ordinary girl who leads a natural life and who always underestimates herself. When she enters school, she becomes the lover of Edward Cullen; a guy who has never dated before. And the first and only girl he gets attracted to is Bella! This is the same very scenario which most girls would want to find in real life; to find Mr Perfect who would see no one but her, and with whom she would live happily ever after. What adds to the Saga’s fans is the fact that many girls think they’re so ordinary just like Bella. So, it’s as if the story is telling them, “Don’t you ever underestimate yourself. There has to be someone special out there in this big world waiting for you!” All such realistic details are the reasons behind the great success which the Saga has made and which neither of the purely fairy-tale classics like Beauty and the Beast or Cinderella managed to achieve.

However, the bad news is that you won’t find such love outside the pages of a book! I’m not saying that life is full of hatred and misery. No, there are people who are as loving as Edward Cullen, though in a realistic way. Another thing is that life between a husband and a wife, as Edward and Bella later come to be, is not just about love. It’s about mutual understanding and mutual respect which only show in cases of misunderstanding and conflicts. This is what many girls do not understand. The Saga even proves to them that marriage is only about love, something that has a great negative effect on girls, especially the all-the-time-day-dreaming ones. It blinds their eyes from seeing reality at an age when they should know the real facts about life.

The problem comes when a girl would start comparing her husband/fiancé to Edward Cullen. Some girls actually start to find their mates boring and not caring enough like Edward. They would even start complaining to them, directly, about this. It may start as a kind of joke, but then a girl would actually start to reconsider this, even unconsciously. And before I made a survey, I never thought that someone would actually want an Edward Cullen in their lives. Some girls admitted to me that they actually believe that such love exists, though maybe rare.

Girls, you have to know that the Edward-Bella love does not exist. You can find some guy who is really respectful, loving and caring. But do not expect him to stick by your side 24/7 to the end of life or live his life doing nothing but singing and writing poems on you.

So girls, read and love The Twilight Saga like you want as long as you believe it’s a mere story which is no different from Snow White or Cinderella.

Collected criticism on Twilight:

  1. If Bella is so ‘plain’, why do so many guys fall for her within the first two chapters?
  1. They fall in love way too quickly and it seems fake because no one falls in love instantly, especially teenagers.
  1. The world population will come to an end because all girls who read this book will think they are Bella and will wait for their Edward to come until they are old. And he’ll never come.

  1. The character of Edward Cullen has girls swooning all over the world. Every girl wishes they could have an “Edward” all their own, however, he’s not real. Stephanie Meyer created him, knowing and wanting girls to fall in love with him.

  10. Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass

The very next time I read a blog, I hope that it doesn’t disappoint me as much as this one. After all, Yes, it was my choice to read, however I actually thought you’d have something interesting to talk about. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you could possibly fix if you were not too busy seeking attention.
