
As part of its corporate social responsibility of connecting with local communities, Starbucks Middle East carried out several community and environmental activities in 8 countries during the Holy month of Ramadan. The Ramadan community activities included traditional Iftars and activities for several orphanages and Elderly homes in Qatar, Lebanon, Jordan, and KSA. Employees also visited the Children’s Cancer Hospital 57357 in Egypt, and (Dar El Wafa’a wal Amal) an Association for the blind and spent quality time with the children as well as donated new outdoor furniture so they can enjoy their garden.
Starbucks UAE honored the Ramadan traditions by focusing on environmental activities including a cleanup of AlMamzar Park in Dubai, and a Recycling Art Competition held in Dubai Marina Mall where children were invited to create art from Starbucks products, as well as an art competition held in Borders Bookstore under the theme of “Taking Care of Our Environment.”
Commenting on the season’s activities, Rana Shaheen, the CSR & Communications Manager, Starbucks Coffee, Middle East and Egypt said, “Starbucks has always been committed to contributing positively to the communities in which it operates, through these activities that cater to various segments of the community including children, teenagers, elderly, as well as activities that preserve the environment. These activities become especially important during the Holy month of Ramadan which calls for Mercy and doing good deeds for our fellow humans.”
Shaheen said that Starbucks prepares annual activity plans for each country as per the priorities of the social issues that need to be addressed in each country, with special focus on youth, culture and the environment. The activities are proposed and carried out by the local partners (employees) who wish to connect with the local community.
Shaheen said, “The positive interaction we receive from the community always encourages us to continue such activities, in addition to the opportunity we have in partnering with NGOs and civil institutions working on these social issues
Starbucks Kuwait hosted Iftars at neighborhood stores and Girgean activities for children.
