11 reasons why you should be happily single!!

Don’t worry, when you finish with this list, you will probably want to take a vow of celibacy!

1- No need to give up on Tarek, who has been your best friend since kindergarten. Yes you can have platonic male friends without worrying about any jealous rages. And you can flirt harmlessly without having a boyfriend think you’re dumping him for the hot new co-worker that looks like Brad Pitt (you don’t want to dump him, although if it was really Brad Pitt and they let you switch for a day, you may have a different opinion.)

2- Picture this, you’re home on a weekday evening at 7pm, and you’ve just put the baby to sleep. You and your husband collapse tiredly on the couch to watch reruns of ‘The Nanny’ for 30 minutes until you sum the energy to go to the bedroom to sleep, when your best friend calls and says she miraculously got tickets for the Bon Jovi concert that is on for tonight only, and you have to be at the pyramids in an hour. Need I say more?

3- You don’t have to watch The Departed when you’d rather go see You, Me & Dupree. And you can have cheesy girly movie marathons without having someone moaning and complaining beside you about how sleazy those chick flicks are.

4- Its gross yes, but you don’t have to forgo that onion appetizer because you need to keep your breath fresh. Go on pulverize those onions and garlic all you want, even if you don’t have a pack of Clorets.

5- You can sleep in rollers, boxer shorts and an old tank top. After all who wants to always be wearing that uncomfortable lingerie with high heels and perfect hair? Didn’t anyone tell them that perfect hair needs maintenance? When should that happen exactly, if you’re supposed to look like Pamela Anderson all the time? Even Pamela Anderson needed a lot of ‘maintenance’ to get where she is today.

6- Children. Yes they are the apple of everyone’s eyes, but reassess that after you’ve been running around a 3 year old all day all day, and find him at the end of the day turning the kitchen upside down and feeding the cat a mixture of flour, peanut butter and milk on your oriental carpet.

7- Not having to shave your legs all winter.

8- Being in a relationship means having someone around 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. In my opinion that is not as fun as it sounds. Four words missing here; ‘personal space’ and ‘me time’. If you are single, carefree and ever feel lonely with a need for someone to talk to, than behold the little miracle called friends.

9- Not having to constantly turn down the toilet seat.

10- You don’t have to always juggle your time and attention between your hubby/boyfriend, friends, your family, and on top of all that, his family.

11- Do I look fat in this? – Being single means no needing to think about pleasing anyone when you dress. There is no one to tell you that your blouse is too tacky, or those pants are too tight, or that he just doesn’t like the colour orange on you. If you’re in the mood to go out in sweats and a T, than why not. And if you plan on dressing completely in red and your boyfriend has a bull-o-phobic condition, than you have nothing to worry about. Oh, and the heels if you are above-average height, then there is no need to worry about appearing taller than “somebody”.

And finally; the most important thing of all is that you can always put yourself first and take care of your needs and wants without being made to feel guilty about prioritizing you.  So think of it this way; if you are in your 20s, you still have all the time in the world to find that special someone and live the rest of your life with him. Because if you follow the normal life expectancy rate these days, then you’ll probably live to be in your 70s. Even if you stay single until you are 40, which means you’ll be married for over 30 years and waking up to the same face everyday of those next 30 years. Now pity those friends of yours who married young, and go out and thank your blessings for being single, carefree and enjoying your life.
