From 26 countries, over 1,000 competing athletes contributed in the 5th Sahl Hasheesh Triathlon, where more than 1,000 spectators lined up for a weekend of sport and triathlon on the Red Sea. The event was organized byTriFactory aiming for it to be Egypt’s largest triathlon event. The race had contributing athletes from Germany, the United Kingdom, USA, France, Russia, Australia, Czech Republic, South Africa,Turkey, and many others.
Triathlon Competition consists of three Olympic sports; cycling, running, and swimming, and is considered the fastest growing Olympic sport worldwide. It has accumulated passionate followers in Egypt over the past few years. The 5th annual Triathlon, organized by TriFactory’s, offered competitors 5 different races: the short Supersprint which targets beginners, the middle-distance Sprint, and finally the official Olympic distance which was the weekend’s main event. The event also included the Duathlon, which is a run-bike-run race, besides a 1k kids race, in which the organizers offered children with ages up to 10 years old the chance to join in the compitition and earn their own medals.
Athletes at theTriathlon competed for gold, silver and bronze in all standings, and to be the champion of their age groups. Prizes and medals were awarded at the closing ceremony where athletes and spectators were invited to some special closing event.
The weekend certainly proved to be a success, with athletes having the best times competing at the stunning bay of Sahl Hasheesh. It’s worth mentioning that Sahl Hasheesh is quickly turning into Egypt’s hottest holiday destination and a must-go for sports travel. The Sahl Hasheesh Triathlon was first organized in December 2014, with fewer than 200 participants. Today, it has grown to be held twice a year, with hundreds of participants taking on both the Spring and Winter editions.
