“Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation”. That was Oscar Wilde, rather intriguing you must agree. How many people have you met with no intrinsic footprint in their souls? Or even worse, how many are mere walking shells? Empty vessels, zombies; living through their mundane daily lives, having their dreams slowly crushed right in front of their eyes as they stand there helpless, not able to lift a finger. Do you feel sorry for yourself now because you just realized you might be one?
Don’t get me wrong, it’s totally all right to have a role-model. But, don’t forget to be yourself. Take a moment and think, what makes you You? I am damn tired of those ‘yes’ people; those pretentious pricks with pre-determined future and a sense of entitlement. How many of you have dreamt of being a doctor, an engineer, or even a belly dancer? Are you now who you wanted to be then? Why you are not? I’m not saying it’s entirely your fault, but some how it is. It was you who agreed on that pre-selected destiny of yours by someone who claims he knows better just because he is older. But, Has he been there, done it?! What if you’re going to do it differently? What gives him the right to withhold that opportunity from you? Make your own mistakes and endure the consequences. Yes, consequences, it will not be a peaceful safe trip. So, buckle up, and if you’re not okay with wallowing in the chaos of your actions, then you’d better get off.
Take a chance! Don’t be boring and stop playing in the safezone; you have already wasted 4 years studying something that makes you hate your guts. Quit before it’s too late! and go do whatever the hell you’ve ever wanted to do. If you’ll regret something, then it’s better to regret wasting 4 years than wasting your entire life. On the bright side, you can always get back to your misery if your adventure failed. All the wasted time is merely the price you have to pay for experience and believe me, it’s better to try first-hand than to ask someone else how is it.
You’ve been a wannabe all your life? You don’t know what you actually want?! Don’t worry; there’s a solution for you. Go off the grid for a week, or two, or even a month. Switch off your mobile phone, leave your goddamn city and go somewhere else; preferably out of this country. Mark Twain said, “The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why”. You don’t have to be an astronaut, even being a super-asshole is a super-power in itself. Always remember, active evil is better than passive good, and at the end of the day what matter is that you be yourself, and not somebody else! And less a wannabe you are, more of a somebody, you’ll be, I assure you!
